Eagles: The cards of a fifth suit in a sixty-five card deck. Early Bet: A small bet placed after the first card in Stud or the first two cards in Draw. Edge: (1) An advantageous position. (2) The dealer or sometimes the age. Also see Age. Edge Odds: The advantage or disadvantage of a player, relative to all other players. Edge Shot: A bet made from an advantageous position. Eight Ball: Eight hundred dollars. Eldest Hand: The first player seated to the left of the dealer. Elimination: Similar to Cincinnati, however, cards matched with table cards are discarded. This is also known as Weary Willie. End Bet: The last bet in a betting interval. End Strippers: Cards tapered around the ends for the purpose of cheating. English Poker: Draw played with a blind opening. English Stud: A Stud game with a draw. Equity: Your “rightful” share of a pot. If the pot contains $80, and you have a 50% chance of winning it, you have $40 equity in the pot. This term is somewhat fanciful since you will either win $80 or $0, but it gives you an idea of how much you can “expect” to win. Ethics or Etiquette: The moral understandings and common courtesies which all players are aware of and expected to follow. Violations of these do not constitute cheating. Expectation: (1) A term referring to the amount that you hope to gain, on average, if you make a certain play. (2) The amount you expect to make at the poker table in a specific time period. Exposed Card: A card that accidentally turns face-up when it is not supposed to, such as during the deal in a Draw game. Exposed Cards: Cards purposely dealt face-up, such as in Stud.
