Five-Card Studwith the lowest card on boardand all like cards as wild.

Main Pot:

The only potan all-inplayer is eligible to win. The main potconsists of the all-inplayer’s bet plus all other players’ calls of that bet. Additional bets, placed in a side pot, are contested amongst the remaining players.

Major Hand:

A straight, or better.

Major-League Game:

The largest-stake game of several pokergames.

Make:

Non-specificaly, to “make” a handmeans to get a decent handthat has a shot at winning the pot.

Make a Hand:

To get a decent handthat has a shot at winning the pot.

Make Good:

To pay money owed to the pot.

Make the Pack:

To shuffleand prepare the cards for dealing.

Maniac:

A player who plays extremely looseand aggressive, often raising with just about anything.

Marked Cards:

Cards with inconspicuous markings that enable cheaters to read them from the back side.

Marker:

Marriage:

King-queen (KQ).

Match It:

Five-Card Studwith one’s holecard becoming wild if matched by an up-card. See Up-Cards.

Match Play:

A competition system used in tournaments in which two participants play a series of games that end when one player accumulates a required number of points. Each game could be worth any number of points.

Match the Pot:

To put in the potan amount equal to what is already in there.

Matching Card:

A card of the same valueor suit as another card.

Mate:

A card that matches or pairs another card.

Maverick:

Queen-jack (QJ).

Maximum-Win Approach:

A playing strategy that enables the player to direct all their efforts toward winning the maximum amount of money.

Mechanic:

A dishonest dealer who cheats by manipulating the cards.

Mechanic’s Grip:

A special way of holding a deck of cards in order to deal dishonestly.

Meet:

See Call.

Meet a Bet:

To callthe full bet.

Mexican Stud:

Five-Card Stud, in which cards are dealt face-down and the player is given the optionof choosing his holecard.

Mickey Mouse:

A worthless hand.

Middle Dealer:

A cheaterwho can dealcards from the middle of the deck.

Middle Man:

See In the Middle.

Middle Pair:

If you pair one of your pocket cards to the second highest card on the flop, you have “middle pair”.

Milker:

A tight player.

Milking the Cards:

See Fuzzing.

Milking the Game:

The gradual draining of money from the game by tight playing.

Minnie:

The perfect lowhand.

Minor-League Game:

A smaller-stakes game.

Misdeal:

A faulty dealresulting in a re-deal.

Miss:

The failure to draw a helpful card.

Mistigris:

A wild joker.

Mitt Joint:

A club where the housecheats the players, or one that turns a blindeye to cheating in general.

Money Flow:

The direction and pattern that money follows during a game, and the amount that “flows” between its players. It also serves as a vaulable tool in measuring the money that can be lost or won over the coarse of a specific period of time.

Money Management:

The intelligent use of a player’s bankroll.

Monkey Flush:

A three-card flush.

Monster:

An extremely strong hand, one that is almost certain to win the pot.

Monte:

A three-card pokergame.

Moon:

(1) To win both halves of a split-pot game. (2) To declare for both high and low.

Moon Hand:

A handof good high and low value.

Mortgage:

Seven-Card Studthat requires a player to win twice before winning the pot.

Motown:

Jack-five (J5).

Mouth Bet:

A bet not backed by money.

Muck:

(1) The pile of folded and burned cards that sits in front of the dealer. (2) To “muck” your cards is to put them into the pile of discarded cards when folding.

Murder:

A two-card or a six-card High-Lowgame with several twists. See Twist.

Mystical Attitude:

An irrational, unreasonable, attitude.
