Wait for the Blind:

Instead of joining in the middle of a rotation, some clubs do not let a new player be dealt-in until it is their turnto put in the blind. This prevents getting “free” hands. However, some clubs allow the player to join the handif he immediately puts upthe blind.

Walk the Table:

The automatic winning of the entire potwith a specific card or hand.

Wash:

To shuffle.

Washing (Card Washing):

A card shuffling technique where the dealerspreads the cards on the tableface-down and then proceeds to mix them around with his hands flat in a face washing like motion, before gathering them upand performing a more normal shuffle. Card washing is intended to remove any consistencies in the sequencing among the cards of new decks, or sequencing that was produced in playprior to the present shuffle. In standard tablepoker, the cards are washed after every handbefore they are subjected to a more conventional shuffling. In Blackjack and Baccarat, the cards are washed when old decks are taken outof playand fresh new decks brought in to replace them.

Waving:

The coiling or crimping of cards by a cheater so the card can be spotted in an opponent’s hand or in the deck.

Weak:

A style of play characterized by a readiness to fold and a reluctance to raise. This also describes a poor player.

Weary Willie:

Wedges:

Certain tapered or shaved cards that can be pulled from a deckby a cheater, when needed.

Weinberg:

Ten-three (T3).

Welcher:

A player who fails to pay a debt.

Whangedoodle:

A roundof jackpots played after a big hand, such as four-of-a-kind.

Wheel:

Whipsaw:

To bet and raiseaggressively on both sides of a calling player. See also Squeezed Player.

Whiskey Poker:

Draw pokerwith window cards that can be exchanged from one’s hand.

White:

White is the color of one dollar chips in most casinos.

Widow:

(1) A card or cards common to all hands, also know as a spit card. (2) The money cutfrom pots, which is also known as kitty.

Wild Card:

A card that can be labelled whatever suitand rankthe possessor wishes.

Wild Card:

Wild Game:

(1) A game using wild cards. (2) A highly spirited or fast-paced game.

Wild Widow:

A card turned up for use as a wild card in every player’s hand, with all similar cards being wild. See also Spit Card.

Window Card:

The card exposed or flashed at the end of a player’s closed hand.

Window Dressing:

A card purposely flashed from one’s closed hand.

Wing:

A winning streak.

Winning hand:

The hand that takes all the chips in the pot because it was the best hand in a showdown.

Wire-Up:

(1) Three-of-a-kindplayed with the first three cards. (2) A Five-ten (5T).

Wired (Back-to-Back):

(1) A pair, trips, or four-of-a-kind dealt consecutively or “back-to-back” in a hand. In a Studhand, it usually starts with the first card. (2) A pairas a starting handin Texas Hold’em. For example, wired kings (KK).

Woolworth:

A game in which all fives and tens are wild.

World Poker Tour:

A popular TV-show that has helped generate a great interest in poker. Every epidode is one hour long and consists of the final six players remaining in the tournament. A camera is used so that the viewer can see the players’ cards. It is often refered to as the WPT.

World Series of Poker:

A series of pokertournaments culminating with a $10,000 buy-in, held every year in Las Vegas. It is most often referred to as WSOP.

Wrap:

In Omaha, four consecutive cards in your starting hand, such as Q-J-T-9.

Wrap Straight Draw:

In Omaha, a straightdraw in which at least three different cards completes your straight.
